LIFEtravels to Haida Gwaii
Haida Gwaii is an archipelago of 450 islands lying 80 km off the BC coast. It offers a magical trip, a uniquely Canadian experience, but is a trip that takes planning and effort. If this is a trip that you are keenly interested in, LIFE member Grethe Jensen is seeking like-minded LIFE travelers.

Grethe would like to do this trip with LIFE members encompassing what she calls a “slow travel” approach, including a ferry trip through the inside passage, visiting the small communities to connect with locals, learning about the Haida heritage, and exploring the exquisite natural beauty of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.
LIFE is reaching out to members who would be interested in being a potential participant in such a trip, as well as willing to help with research and planning.
This will be summertime travel of approximately 10 days in length. Targeted dates would be June or July of 2019 or 2020, depending on how efficiently plans can be put in place. Group size: 4 - 8 adventurous people. Estimated cost is between $2,000 - $4,000, depending on decisions made by the group regarding accommodations and transportation.
Interested in participating? Please contact Grethe Jensen at

Spain with Dr. Olivier Courteaux
LIFEtravels and Worldwide Quest
Spain is a fascinating country to explore, bursting with historic treasures, architectural wonders, dramatic scenery, and charismatic cities.

The journey begins in the golden metropolis of Madrid where we find medieval mansions, royal palaces, and a plethora of artistic masterpieces including Picasso’s Guernica, Spain’s most famous artwork. From Madrid we’ll travel out to Toledo, dramatically sited at the top of gorge overlooking the river; a place where we find Roman roots, Gothic cathedrals, Sephardic synagogues crammed into the dense historical centre.

A fast train takes us south to Andalucia, a cultural melting pot of Christian and Moorish influences with ancient mosques transformed into churches, richly decorated palaces, and a cuisine infused with North African flavours. We’ll visit the highlights in the beautiful cities of Seville, Cordoba, and Granada, ending our trip in the Mediterranean seaside town of Malaga.

Don’t miss this LIFE Institute trip to Spain in the company of fellow LIFE Institute members and friends.

Uzbekistan with Drs. Philip and Nancy Wood
LIFEtravels and Worldwide Quest
Join a modern-day caravan through Uzbekistan along the fabled Silk Route. These ancient lands were sought after and conquered by history’s legendary leaders and still today appeal to true travellers who seek out old-fashioned exploration. Traverse memorable landscapes and visit magnificent examples of Islamic architecture in streetscapes and grand buildings.

From the modern capital of Tashkent, we set off to the remote valleys of Central Asia surrounded by the Tien Shan Mountain Range where Alexander the Great founded a city in 329 BCE and where traders from China created the Silk Road in the 1st century BCE. See the beautifully intact architectural ensemble of Khiva, the living museum of Bukhara to explore this still very much lived-in old centre filled with madrassahs, minarets, a royal fortress and a mulberry tree-shaded oasis in its heart. In Samarkand discover the magnificent monuments of Tamerlane and Registan Square, possibly the most awesome single sight in Central Asia. The incredible sky-blue tile work, woven brick constructions and brilliant fabrics of the Silk Road form a mosaic of vivid snapshots and the warm hospitality is pervasive.
