Active from May through September, LIFE's walking group meets twice weekly to explore the city, stay fit and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you prefer hiking in nature, or exploring the urban cityscape, you are sure to find a walk that suits your interest and comfort level. All walks are accessible by TTC, and usually conclude in areas with nearby restaurants so that you can, if you choose, enjoy a lunch out afterwards.

We offer two main types of walks:

  • Green Walks are nature walks that usually take place on unpaved paths. They may take place in areas that include beaches, parks, gardens, ravines and/or birding. They move at a brisk pace, but still allow for comfortable conversation. Examples of Green Walks include Edwards Gardens, Moore Park Ravine, Don Valley Brick Works, East Don Parkland and James Gardens to the Old Mill.

  • Grey Walks take their visual interest from the cityscape and take place on paved sidewalks. They are usually themed, allowing you to discover some of the great heritage areas, distinct architecture, quaint neighbourhoods and points of literary or cultural significance around the city. They move at a moderate pace, and include frequent stops to allow the group leader to comment on points of interest. Examples of Grey Walks may include jaunts through Yorkville, along Spadina Avenue, around City Hall, Concord City Place, the CNE, South Rosedale and Riverside.

Day: Tuesdays and Fridays, May through September

Time: 10 AM – 12 PM

On rare occasions will you need to register for individual walks.

Notification: Starting in April, registered walkers will receive monthly email notifications that will inform them about the type of walk – Green or Grey – as well as the leader's name, meeting place, type of terrain, and level of difficulty.
